Working Assumption
Working assumptions are useful because reality eventually gets to grade them. August was supposed to close our structural chapter neatly.
It almost did. We are behind on some resolution. We remain on course.
We have made tangible progress across transfers, contracts, banking, research, manufacturing preparation and our academic projects. We also remain a little behind the curve administratively, and anybody sufficiently interested to inspect the public register may notice that reality before we finish remedying it. Fair enough. For the reference illustration of today, big shout out to the Ishikawa-lab of Hokkaido University.
Structure
Last week we suggested the Structure header might disappear for a while.
Apparently it wanted one final appearance.
The end-of-August target has brought us considerably closer to the intended structure, but not quite across every line. Transfers and historical obligations continue moving through the sequence, documentation is catching up, and the accounting position is now being reviewed with professional support before the corresponding filings are completed.
Our UK orientation remains increasingly connected to the Midlands, academia and manufacturing, while the separate US route continues developing around fabrication, manufacturing, deployment and advisory relationships.
Regulatory
There is a public administrative blemish to address. We knew the sequencing carried that possibility. The accounts are currently under expert review, the resulting flag is being remedied, and the objective remains unchanged.
The current Companies House position has produced a Gazette-related flag while the outstanding filing sequence is being resolved. We knew this was possible when we chose not to rush accounts ahead of the transactions and structural events they were intended to reflect.
The accounts are now in expert review, the flag is being remedied, and we'll continue working through the process until the public record catches up with operational reality.
Our principle remains the same:
Book reality first. Publish reality second.
With one useful addition learned this summer:
Preferably before the registry gets impatient.
Equity Tracks
Monday matters.
The September iteration currently hinges on successfully completing the remaining transfer sequence at the beginning of next week.
If that lands as intended, we can finally illustrate the resulting equity and cap-table position alongside the next update rather than continuing to describe a structure that is still moving underneath us.
Ownership should be understandable.
Grant-Tracks
The longer horizon continues despite the shorter-term administrative noise.
We also continue engaging with the infrastructure connecting UK universities and businesses themselves. This week that includes contributing to the National Centre for Universities and Business' Konfer feedback cycle ahead of its September 1 close. Small input, admittedly, but useful systems improve when the people actually trying to navigate them participate. Beyond that, UK, European and US pathways continue being assessed toward the later commercialisation programme.
Series B preparation and post-2028 thinking exist.
They are also still working assumptions.
One mountain at a time.
Product
The Mk-X programme continues moving from roadmap toward commercialisation.
Manufacturing readiness, validation, modularity, pilot environments and scaling remain the practical questions. We originally pointed toward September 1.
The work will happen then.
The public roadmap iteration will go live September 4, within our regular publication interval, allowing Monday's transfer sequence and the resulting structural position to be reflected rather than publishing several days too early simply because we once wrote down a date.
Roadmaps should describe reality.
Not bully it.
R&D Focus
Fortunately, electrons remain largely indifferent to Business; Where our technical programme continues across piezoelectric systems, synthetic crystal architectures, ZnO structures, energy harvesting, control circuitry and the wider evidence base required to move from interesting materials toward useful systems. And our student collaborations are now reaching one of their most rewarding stages:
University of Birmingham projects are concluding with working systems, not simply final reports. Suitable outputs are moving toward public testing, while selected projects are already raising the considerably more interesting question of what happens after graduation.
For some, the answer may simply be publication and a successful academic project. For others:
Research → System → Public Testing → Validation → Commercialisation
That possibility is becoming real enough to take seriously.
Knowledge shouldn't stop because a semester does.
Neither should good engineering.
Ecosystem
August gave us quite a lot to digest. The next conversation is already waiting. Learn individually. Apply collectively. Grow together.
We’ve been invited to join on September 3, the Forum's Frontier Technologies series turns toward Too Hot to Ignore: The Technologies Cooling a Hotter World, exploring energy-efficient cooling, heat-resilient infrastructure, advanced materials and climate-smart urban systems.
The UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase remains ahead. Our academic network is broadening. There are more opportunities than we can responsibly chase. Orientation remains the skill we need to develop.
Operations
The website and backend received maintenance. Representation and hosting continue being adjusted. Documentation is being consolidated. Student projects are moving toward handover. Financial and corporate records are being prepared for the next state. A few meetings moved. A few assumptions moved with them. Not everything went according to plan.
Enough went according to purpose.
Outlook
There is something mildly unnerving about succeeding while simultaneously screwing things up. Perhaps that is simply what operating close to the edge of available resources feels like.
August did not give us the perfectly resolved ending we wanted.
It gave us working systems, moving transfers, stronger partnerships, maturing manufacturing routes, academic outputs approaching public use; with an administrative flag reminding us that ambition doesn't suspend deadlines.
September doesn't require August to have been perfect.
It requires us to finish what August started.
