KCM Research
A piezoelectric energy harvester converts external mechanical energy into electrical energy by harnessing the ubiquitous ambient energy present in our environment. Derived from various sources such as vibrations from machines, vehicles, and buildings; human movements such as walking or finger tapping; and even physiological processes such as heartbeats, respiration, and blood flow. Employing active materials to generate electricity by intrinsic polarization when subjected to mechanical strain, such as stretching, compression, or bending.
Gaining momentum as a green alternative to conventional batteries, due to the need for greater energy security in the face of depleting fossil fuels and rising carbon emissions, the need for environmental sustainability through clean, reusable energy to reduce the waste and pollution, and the rapid use of smart and low-power devices in medicine, mobile, and remote devices, which demand smart energy-autonomous solutions to reduce costs and maintenance.
Our research and development efforts aim to provide the foundation for next-generation self-powered systems that not only reduce environmental impact but also extend the lifespan and efficiency of critical technologies by enabling devices to generate their own reliable energy.
